Beautiful music composed in the most appalling circumstances.

I have tried and tried over the years but I just cannot get excited about Grieg's music.

I really enjoyed the music making on these performances; it was well paced and had the appropriate lilt for dance music. There is also a good level of energy in the performances which moves them along. Yes, I am very pleased with this acquisition.

I bought this box last week and have been savouring each disc over the last few nights.  A wonderful testament to one of the great musicians of the 20th century and a magnificent overview of the French organ repertoire encompassing works from the 17th to the 20th century.  What is especially inspiring is the amount of relatively unfamiliar work that Alain recorded (Grigny, Lebègue, Nivers, Dandrieu) alongside more familiar French repertoire (Widor, Vierne, Saint-Saëns, Poulenc, Franck, Duruflé, Messiaen).  Tonight I'm listening to her superlative recordings of the works of the sadly short-lived Nicolas de Grigny.
