Good selecton John. As obscure as they come but not to us :-) Pity I didn't see you at the show....you should have said! Having just listened to your selection I'm mightily impressed with the last one, namely Sarabeth Tucek; the guitar solo/interplay in the middle reminds me slightly of prime Crazy Horse/Neil Young! I know I've seen the album on vinyl in Tower recently - how could one forget that beautiful sleeve painting! I will definitely get it the next time I'm up! The first one is typical of the sort of stuff you like, all harmony vocals etc etc. The last one won't load up but I will give it a listen later. Thanks for posting....

That Sarabeth Tucek is quite good alright.Crazyhorse sprang to mind also on my first listen...Widowspeak's alot like Mazzy star and very good also...
The Dark dark dark is very hard to put in a catogory.
Maybe we'll get some Tirna badges for next years show so we won't have a problem spotting each other...or maybe a Tirna stand for signing up new members??

Widowspeak actually reminded of Mazzy too! Nah, you wouldn't need badges.....the glazed look would be sufficient ;-)

Listening to this on YouTube, inspired by a cd from Dermot. Why didn't I hear this stuff before???? Look out Visa card, you're about to get pasting!

You have just made my day Johnny! Enjoy your journey into the Popol Vuh archives and don't forget the films either :-)

Here's a guide I did earlier:

Popol Vuh were certainly one of the most enigmatic groups ever to come out of Germany.Their music always defied easy categorisation.Yet anyone seeking a handle on their career has been frustrated by issues and reissues which change track listings, duplicate titles and generally confuse the issue.Thankfully, first Spalax Music and now SPV have tried to rectify the problem by re-releasing the entire Popol Vuh back catalogue on compact disc....and in the case of SPV include bonus cuts too...I'm not familiar with the CD reissues as all my collection is on vinyl so I would appreciate some kind of feedback if any of you do take the plunge - and you should, without delay.....

Guitar Heaven:

Einsjager & Siebenjager - plundered for Aguirre with the exception of the 20 minute title track... Stunning guitar!

Das Hohelied Salomos - more stunning guitar.

Seligpreisung - and more.....all from Daniel Fichelscher (ex amon Duul)

Meditational/Voices Heaven:

Hosianna Mantra - Conny Veit's guitar sounds heaven sent! As do the voices of Djong Dun and Renate Knaup (A Duul)

Agape-Agape - features the sublime Why do I Still Sleep and heavenly voices...

Spirit of Peace - not the piano meditation found on the Garten/Aguirre album (see below)
features even more soundtrack cuts...(Reinhold Messner)

Sei-Still,Wisse Ich Bin - again plundered for Fitzcarraldo

Electronic Heaven:

Affenstunde - the Big Moog and nothing but the the Big Moog....

In Den Garten Pharaos - plundered for Nosferatu and includes the side long church organ piece Vuh

Soundtrack Heaven:

Cobra Verde - the last and only 'pure' soundtrack and stunning!

Aguirre - see above and featuring the side long Vergegenwaertigung

Nosferatu (Bruder Des Schattens - Sonne Des Lichts) - see above (Garten)

Herz Aus Glass/Coeur Der Vere - different titles, same soundtrack (I think!!)

Fitzcarraldo - electronics with the Bayerischen Staatsoper Munchen;frightening!!

Compilation Heaven:

Garten/Aguirre - featuring the sublime three part piano meditation Spirit of Peace plus Vuh (Garten) and Lacrime De Ri
(Aguirre)

Nicht Hoch im Himmel - not familiar with this but by all accounts it is a reasonable compilation.

Best of Films of Werner Herzog - beginners start here...

Getting ready for the new one :-) On (rare) double vinyl with lyric sheet. Got this one from a chap in England for around £35.00. Unfortunately there was a scratch or two over on side three which I told him about; he was aghast and promptly sent me his very last spare copy. No way would he accept a returned copy! So now I have two copies :-) Don't worry I showed my appreciation by buying another rather rare Bevis double from him! (Sprawl)

A lot rockier than Hollywood Town Hall, great guitar sound. Good one for for Saturday night before going out.

On vinyl,

This is an incredible mostly guitar instrumental album of rare beauty with a fabulous sound.....despite the tongue in cheek title! For God's sake if you see it, snap it up immediately!
