Hi guys

I am new to the computer audio thing - I know a bit about DAC's but nothing about building an audio PC.
I was planning on spending around 1500 - 2000 or more on a CD player but now I'm thinking of going the audio PC route.
Can you guys post pics of some of the builds and maybe say what kind of performance to expect for that kind of money?

I live in Clontarf - maybe I could drop in and take a look and listen if anyone lived near?

two different specs. If jumping in you will easily get something very good for circa €1000 max.
Upgrading to battery, specialist linear etc can be done later. Biggest cost is streacom fc5 or fc9 case.

I was actually thinking of the FC10 - because it will fit in my rack and be closer to the dimensions of my other gear.
Do you know how many hard drives can be fixed to the inside of the chasis?
Also I am completely allergic to the idea of using a monitor - DONT WANT THAT AT ALL.
Can an interface be connected in the form of a smart phone - something small, that can be used to access the music files inside the PC?

In general i'm looking for something with stream line aesthetics, I don't want it to look like a PC and I really like how the streamcom gear just looks like you added another DAC into the rig slot.

how important is ease of use?
maybe a 4 rail linear pico less
win server r2
jriver/JPLAY
Ipad app with no monitor would suit
would be fairly foolproof
it's a sensible level
then there's optional extras
usb cards
ssds
usb cable
sata cables
extra ps rails
there's other stuff for the excentric

Yes there are plenty of apps i don't use it so somebody else will have to advise but no doubt google will turn up plenty of options.

Yes re wifi so it is up to how much you are in to 'SQ' only at all expense and if you think it makes enough difference.
Easy enough to try with and without.

R2 should work like any other operating system.If wifi is on the mobo it should just need setting up

gizmo is the android app for jriver
its quite a nice interface

their network based via a router (ethernet to audio pc will likely be the lesser evil)

r2 is a windows server os we can minimise the os to minimal server mode and have jriver load automatically on boot up no monitor or keyboard is required just needs 10-15 secs to boot up

there a far more extreme measures but they require a bit of Computer Audio knowledge
