Tried it no luck. It opens and looks like it will play but bombs out.
Echo Ken's views above. Very happy here just use hires for all stuff now. Detecting really no harshness at all. Talking Heads Listening Wind(don't matter if you like it or not) but the wind howling synth maybe Adrian belew guitar or combination of syth/guitar and the thud and depth of the percussion is just fantastic.

No luck either!
Last night I tried every mqncontrol possible.
With 16/44 I got same as Tony......the window start for 2-3 seconds and disappear, no sound! With HiRez, not even the window! :(

Sorry to hear that you can't use AVX yet....
The first version being able to run hirez on my system was "mqnplay.exe 24 bit v4 hirez sse4 wc win8.1-r2 200000", and it was excellent until now, so I can't comment on any 2.72 or 2.73 that some people use for hirez (32 bit container). But AVX is in different league than the one I used so far, I would say so...let's see what the other people will say about it once they get the chance to listen to it.

OK
What I see happening in taskmanager is that mqncontrol loads, then mqnplay loads and after about 1 second mqnplay drops out.
So either some bug or some incompatibility with Windows Server 2012R2 + AO or incomoatibility with drivers/device.
Maybe while things are not stable some kind of debug mode could be helpfull to find out what is happening.
Cheers

Had the same behavior here on an AO optimized machine. I tried a clean install of WS2012R2 and then I have seen that mqnplay.exe terminates with an "appcrash error". So seems not to be incompatible to AO, it only suppresses the error messages. I'm using an Ivy Bridge CPU Core i5 3470T and CPU-Z states support vor AVX.

think it needs avx2 instruction set, so need haswell or broadwell (due 2014), check using cpu z
shall copy the same code out so it works with lesser cpus as have learn't some things while doing the avx version.

On my Haswell i7 CPU-Z reports support for AVX and AVX2.
This is the computer used above.
