I'd be interested in how that one goes for you JAW - I've heard one of the tracks off that and thought it very good, despite not being a huge waterboys or yeats fan!
Might look out for it.

I would have to predicate any comment that I make by saying I've a lot of time for both Yeats and Mike Scott, and that I was impressed at the concert last year. It's unmistakably a Waterboys album, with Mike Scott's "Big music" to the fore. To be perfectly frank, sometimes the match works and sometimes it doesn't. When it works, ( Song of Wandering Aengus, A Full Moon in March, Mad as the Wind and Snow and The Faery's Last Song), it's very good, when it doesn't(The Lake Isle of Innisfree, a slow, talking blues interpretation), it seems forced . He's found a vocalist called Katie Kim who has a really ethereal voice which suits Yeat's other worldly work. But, as I said at the start, I'm biased!!!
BTW, that Hendrix one's a great find. It's been a good month for music!

JAW: have you got this one? I have it on tape and its actually very good, I play it often. The waterboys do "the stolen child" on it and Mike Scott takes a turn on another track too. "Politics" done by Karl Wallinger is excellent too... more good tracks than duff ones.

What type of music is this Fran? Do you think it would interest me [as you know I tend to listen mainly to country, Blues, 1970s rock, acoustic and such]?
Thanks.

Its an album inspired by/dedicated to WB Yeats - really its various poems of his interpreted by a range of artists. And for the most part its very good - could have been terrible, but it worked out well.
I only have it on tape Tom - but if you have a search on amazon you can listen to some bits of it....
Listening to this tonight:

Gave this a blast last night and was a wee bit disappointed. The slow Peter Green stuff was really effective but the fast rocky stuff was a big disappointment. "Need Your Love So Bad", "I Loved Another Woman","Jumpin' At Shadows", "Merry Go Round" and maybe "The Stumble" are the highlights; that's only five out of fourteen tracks :-( incidentally "Stop Messing Around" is credited to, wait for it, Roy Buchanan!?!?!? Also it's not a sota recording by a long shot; more like a high quality bootleg but that's ok, I have no problem with that at all. The rawer the better!
