Well done Dave, I suppose that you'll have to keep the Kharmas now.

Great news Dave!

I see you have a Music First Classic in your picture - I hope you don't mind but I would be interested to know your thoughts on this passive when compared with a tube pre. I am currently looking around at options for a new preamp to go with my Cary power amps. It seems that (from reading about the MF) it is very revealing and neutral and does not convey its own character (warm/bright). The Carys are revealing, but not bright in character. Also, is yours a silver or a copper?
Many thanks
Marcus

Hi Marcus,

I sold the Music First Silver some time ago along with the Gamut amp which partners it very well.

The MF doesnt really any have any sonic character. Its very neutral and just passes through whatever it is given by the sources. If your Carys are revealing that I'd expect that along with a MF passive pre, the character of your sources will really come through and be heard more.
Not everyone is a fan of passive pres mind, some think that they rob the sound of some dynamics and perhaps thin out the sound a bit. I never heard any such traits with the MF though.

It really impossible to predict how the MF will match with your Carys. On paper they should be fine but I've experienced a lot of frustration over the last few months by trying to match components that I thought should work well together. I based my decisions on other peoples system who have similiar components or compnents from the same family but it turned out to be far from straightforward.

Cheers,
Dave

Thanks Dave, I know what you mean regarding matching, and all said and done, only my ears will tell. I hope that any mismatching you experienced is sorted now and you are getting back to enjoying the music.
