pureplayer:
pureplayer

Small guide how to use it:
Unzip the folder to c:
Copy PurePlay_Shortcut to Desktop and double click it
You need .NET framework v4 - free download from MS, but you still have to do it.

This is very much still in development and the versions are almost coming every few days....
I'm downloading it myself right now....

Yes, it works with flac at least, and 24/96. Its actually not too bad to use - you drag and drop files from windows explorer to it. select them and then hit play.
Works with FLAC and mp3 but not wma so far

Yes, it works & sounds pretty good (with WAV & FLAC) - I need some longer term listening to decide where it sits relative to Foobar, HQPlayer.
have you managed to install the other product that is recommended along side it - Fidelizer? I keep getting a message that I don't have the admin rights to install on Win 7. I'm sure this is the one area in which SWMBO is not the administrator :)

It applies to Vista also -
http://www.windowsxlive.net/fidelizer
Assigns higher priority to audio process & minimises all non-essential processes (on a temporary basis only :))
I know why I can't install it - I'm running a beta version of Win 7, doh!
Edit: A better link here

They both sound better than foobar.... and I am convinced that they sound different to each other too. I think the pureplayer has a little bit more clarity.
I'm only listening on headphones and I think you would need to be listening with speakers since its likely that thats where the differences will be most noticeable.
Ken - if you get a chance maybe you would try the pureplayer out and compare it to HQplayer?

Fran,
Can you try with Fidelizer? This is meant to be something akin to what XXHighend is doing! (Another £200 software player!)

Hi Fran , downloaded it tonight but no time today , beer only tonight . Will give it a try tomorrow. I am trying convolution again with my new mic tomorrow also. Very keen to hear how well Fidelizer works, I was considering trying it but I didn't want to screw up the PC.

Ken, I don't think it changes anything permanently & you don't seem to need it running on startup!

Jaysus that fidelizer definitely makes a difference.
You need to go from one page to the next to actually download it. I have the zip file if anyone wants it.
I actually quite like the pureplayer interface and would be happy enough with it - not as nice as the HQplayer one - theres no starting in the middle of a track for example, or pause etc etc. And I suppose the other thing is that it doesn;t support all file types... but then neither does HQplayer.
Now, I wonder what HQplayer or even foobar sounds like with the fidelizer turned on?
BTW, one thing about fidelizer... to turn it off you need to restart the PC, oh yeah - you'll need to right click and run it as administrator....
