Shouldn't be any problem I think. What can happen sometimes is that you can pick up interference just due to the length of the cables and them turning into a kind of antenna. But no harm, no. Likewise, it should be no problem hooking up a more powerful amp either. Maybe bit a little careful of turn on/off thumps, but mostly these don't matter.

Placement is probably important. Another thing to try is taking off the grilles over the drivers. I left them on ages ago to stop those with small fingers getting at the drivers!! That might help a little with soundstage too.

Really finding it difficult to decide on which small speaker for the new room ...

Think I'd orefer the one on the right. Although its function as a speaker can become problematic!

I agree with Fran, it may become loud, abrasive and hard to ignore if fed the wrong signal!
