Derek...
Insulating the inside of a house is more prone to cold bridging than a wrap, due in part to the fact that inner walls connect to outer walls and the dept/thickness of that wall acts as a thermal conduit.
You have just solved an issue for me. A couple of years back we had an issue with the plastering in our front room. When the guy came to do it, he suggested we should insulate the front wall on the inside and then he would plaster over it. Over the past two years we have noticed small circular dots appearing on the wall above the main window. A gentle wash gets rid of it but it keeps returning.

I'm not an expert or work in this particular area but I have some experience with older properties abroad from the 1870's.

A lot of issues are caused by older properties having modern measures added to them.

Such as properties that had originally sash and case windows. Some owners have had double glazing installed. Result is less noise and draft but the negative is condensation build up in the properties. Black mould on walls mainly.
Same as when old fire places are blocked up, if you don't install a grille in the gap, it doesn't ventilate and again, condensation issues.
Also, most properties with wood suspended ground floors have vent bricks to let air circulate underneath. If you change the floor to concrete therefore raising the floor, the vent brick loses its purpose, Result can be the moisture on lower part of the walls which some companies call rising damp. It isn't that, its caused by ventilation/condensation issues and can be fixed by more ventilation.

Also older properties being plastered with regular plaster, needs to be lime plaster so they can breathe.

Not knocking anyone wanting a warmer home, but just be careful.

This is an 1985 bungalow with dormer extension to the attic... we moved here 3 years ago from a Victorian house that we had renovated completely - we actually took out PVC and reinstalled modern sash windows there.

I appreciate the advice re older houses but this is a bit different..

Agree , the 1985 home will be affected differently to the older ones. I'd still proceed with caution as these houses wouldn't have been designed to be wrapped in this way and it can take a period of time to see any negative affects.

When I had the black mould in the 1870s house, the affects of fitting the grill in the blocked off fireplace and more ventilation took a long time to have a positive affect.

Well now... its not easy getting an honest and transparent sales pitch from insulation companies! Who knew?

Having spoken to Fran "off air" I contacted the company he used. No nonsense, no hard sell just advised on what we needed and has been 100% through. It seems we really only need to concentrate on the eaves and to some extent tje rafters.. they will use and tidy up some fibreglass insulation already there and card vent & also foam spray where needed. They will also lag pipes and a water tank and upgrade soffits.
No unnecessary work and it will qualify for a grant.
Superb result. The work hasn't been done yet but I'm.very confident and relieved..
Will report back....
