Well while I expect the Modded HiFace to be very impressive my own yoke is delivering the goods at the moment too. I'm more interested in hearing how good HD playback can be than doing a simple comparison - I learned a long time ago it doesn't do to compare ones system to others as you either become depressed or complacent. I think hippies had a poem about that.

You'll need a DAC as well Ivor.

Great Ivor, I'm interested in doing this in the new year. I'll probably have a DAC available too!
In the new year, I'll send out a review unit which can be passed around to those bone fide members who can be vouched for i.e it/they won't disappear!

Suggest that when this is started in the new year that you open up a new thread when you send the unit out - that way everyone knows where it is etc etc etc. Not that I think it would go missing, but best to start out fair and square. If people are uncomfortable with this, then they would know in advance and can either make alternative arrangements or decide to do other things.

Spot on. Everyone should be giving open feedback anyway.

Hi John
I’m interested but my system and Fran’s are very similar, do you think it’ll be counterproductive?
My DAC is as per FRAN.
Aren’t attenuators great things altogether!
Anyway the last version convinced me to jump on the band wagon, put my name one for when the tweaking is done.

Hi Guys,
Took the plunge & ventured out for some food shopping - just back - it's madness out there!
Good idea Fran, I'll open up a thread.
What I wanted to achieve in that thread was to get some honest evaluation of where this modified Hiface slots into the range of digital front ends. So initially I would like to offer it to people with a well regarded CDP or digital front end to compare it to. I'll put Ivor as the first to receive this.
Hopefully, I will put out a second review unit for those without such elevated front-ends, purely for auditioning
Ivor, nothing like hearing it in your own system all the same & I have an I2S output version (no SPDIF, no attenuators) which will connect into your Buffalo & is another sonic upgrade!

When this project takes off I'll put a few hi-res recordings on a memory stick and it can accompany the Hiface until it finishes it's journey and then it can be returned to me(without fail).

I have a buffalo! The only DAC I have is an old Delta with a coaxial input. It's ok but it would be the weak link in the chain.
Just drop over some time with the box and a DAC and we'll compare tracks. Hi Res would be interesting but not a 'like for like' comparison.

Sorry, Ivor, that was meant to be addressed to Derek - he has a Buffalo, I believe & only 3 wires to connect for I2S input.
Sure, I'll bring a DAC & Hiface to you to start the ball rolling - I'll give you a shout when the eating, drinking & snow is finished :)
Ken, great idea for a glimpse into high res music for the curious - thanks for your support.
