And also a simple solution
Urge u to try them :)
Think i posted links to the clocks i used somewhere in the other thread
Its mostly the power supply to these clocks that does the magic
I ordered the 22/24 ndk clocks from diyinhk, the rest I can source from mouser or digikey I think.
I'm comfortable with mains voltage and dc power supplies but I don't have a lot of experience with batteries (for diy like this) and totally avoided the lifepo4 craze. I thought A123 were no longer available? I assume the ebay ones are fake. I'll do some research. For some reason I thought charging lifepo4 was complicated.
EDIT: It was randy's page. I saw his rat's nest of wires and said hell no, but I suppose I could take a much simpler approach : P

rat's nest?? :)
I suppose that's true. Most of the wires are to bring power to each shift register, which does make a difference.
But you could use 4 wires for shift register power, and get 90-95% of the gain of lifepo4's.
And charging is easy, constant voltage so you just need a power supply that puts out the voltage you want.

Heh. Thanks randy. I've found some lifepo sources so I'm leaning that way.
As for the constant voltage. Do I need a really good supply for charging or can one of those cheap generic lm317 with led voltage meter suffice?

Same. I actually use unregulated walwarts feeding a 317, seems to work fine. But I use a walwart with a transformer, not the new style cheapo ones that are all solid state and weigh like one ounce. lifepo4 batteries cover you sins.
And you can get "real" ones now, I plan to buy and replace the generics I used, one of these days.

I got some slightly larger green 2300Mah 'used' lifepo4 on ebay. Seemed legit.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but did you use two separate batteries to power the amanero and the sokeris isolated inputs, or one battery for both?

I used one battery for both.
I removed the 5 to 3.3 reg from the amanero. Then provide 3.3V to both.
