How did I miss these posts?

Absolutely right, JB, they're pricy at that level. I hadn't realised they were comparatively inexpensive at rrp. Still wouldn't mind hearing them again, though. Wonder how they'd compare to the quads?

And yes, LV are meant to be superb. Steve tells a fine tale of hearing LV with top end Audio Note and being very impressed. You'd need some 300Bs with those!!

Anyway, as for the pre, the Graaf 13.5B mk ii is mine, I just need to hand over cc details tomorrow and it will be shipped from a dealer in the UK. I may yet get to hear the Calypso, though. We know somebody who may have just purchased it...

Nearly there then Simon well done and kinda nice you can try the calypso also. I heard pair of LV's when picking up my quads. They were expense priced at the £10k mark cant remember the model. They sounded nice but I felt much happier backing out the door loading the quads into the boot. Again on the wam they seem to be coveted by many.

Yes indeed, guilty on the Calypso front! Just need to sort shipping etc and hopefully it will be winging it's way to Dublin.. Bit of a punt but Hi-Fi really can drive crazy behaviour....

Congrats, I hope it Ferrari Silver!

I think I'd fancy a Border Patrol 300B amp to go with the LV's!

Tony, the comparison I'd really like to hear with the Quads are those Martin Logan CLS IIz, not least because they're the only "pure" MLs I ever heard -- panel only, no attached subwoofer. A large part of me thinks they'd be better than the 57s...

I would LOVE that, but unfortunately I think they only ever made them in black. At the very least, I think it's the new (nicer-looking) case rather than the earlier one.

Yep, that would do very nicely!

Its amazing what can be done with a steady hand, some masking tape, a can of spray paint.............................and a carry pack!

Not sure where that came from Simon? Are these speakers that are for sale somewhere at the moment? I know the guy who had my amp before me using a pair of ML's of some description.Actually think they are for sale in the shop I got the amp. Are you contemplating or just musing?

I posted about them earlier in the thread, Tony, when JB mentioned my buying Quads not to listen to them. (I know the thread has jumped around a bit, so it's hard to stay abreast of everything!)

Basically, there's a pair of Martin Logan CLS IIz for sale on the Wigwam at an admittedly lofty price of £1500. I heard a pair once in Cloney and they stick in my mind as being some of the best sounding speakers I ever heard, bass aside. Now, I was a young whippersnapper back then who didn't know his arse from his elbow so maybe I wouldn't be so impressed these days, but I'm still quite curious. It struck me that for the price of a One Thing Audio upgrade to the Quads I could instead sell the Quads and buy the Martin Logans.

It's all academic really because for starters my budget is shot and for finishers there's no way they'd work with my amps AT ALL (they dip down to 1.5 ohm). I'm still intrigued, though. At a different time and in a different system I'd be tempted to buy them to not use, just like I did with the Quads!

Ok I see. Imho the best route to ota quads is to buy off a guy who has been battered by the wife for bringing a pair into the sitting room.Generally they are available at a goodly discount well under what they are really worth or the cost of the fix. Ok there is a comfort getting them fixed and brand new from OTA but if funds are restricted the ducking and diving method can yield the same result.

Cloneys have a pair of ML's I think at the moment sure you might as well add them to your borrowed list. Do you not just add a sub woofer like the B&W PV1 if bass is the issue? Of course easy to say but realise it adds more to the costs. I think you like the kharma's too much anyway and since they are really just like a new pair of speakers now after owning them for xyrs half assembled!
