A beautiful CD and warmly recommended.

Gorgeous singing by the most musical and elegant of countertenors. And here is the only vocal version of La Follia that I know of.

Dutch soprano Elly Ameling had one of the most ravishing lyric voices of the 60´s and 70´s. Because of her strict upbringing she never sang opera on stage, but had a long and distinguished career in the concert hall. Her direct, unmannered and honest way with these songs is admirable.

You recommended that CD to me a long time ago Pepe and it was one of my most memorable purchases!

How intriguing!

Yes, intriguing. Elly Ameling belongs to that wonderful generation of Mozart sopranos that included Lucia Popp, Helen Donath and Edith Mathis, but sadly, Ameling didn´t perform operas on stage.
She was in huge demand as a recitalist though.

Did you like that set Mark?
It is not a set that was mentioned on my recent thread on the same subject so I would be interested in your thoughts.
Hi Fergus, sorry for the delay in replying.
This is my favourite version of the three sets which I own, the other two being the Freiberger Barokorchester and Musica Antiqua Koln version.
The recording has a distinct clarity with great instrument separation and a fine performance played with great delicacy and feeling - but then I'm strongly in thrall to everything Savall right now.

Cheers, Mark and thank you for that. I may well look into that one.

Did you enjoy that one Mark? I have not come across that CD in all of my searches of Early Music.

I really enjoyed the set. The performances were most enjoyable and certainly justify the recommendations in my recent thread.
