Another fine version of the Dvorak Violin Concerto.
The coupling of the Elgar Sonata for Violin & Piano was also most enjoyable.

Glad to know you enjoyed it Fergus, I would have preferred a different orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic or the Gewandhaus for example, but Vengerov´s playing is both dashing and cultured, I like this recording a lot.

I certainly did enjoy it Pepe; he is an exciting and energetic virtuoso!

This one is for Seán in particular: I am currently making my way through the Beethoven Symphonic cycle Seán, this time cunducted by Szell. I do not know whether or not you have this particular cycle but my listening was arrested recently when I heard the second symphony which I know that you have a particular fondness for. This was a really excellent, powerful performance and one that I am sure that you would enjoy if you do not already know it.

Dvorak: Cello concerto....

A very good reading; most enjoyable. It is always interesting to hear a gut stringed cello, especially in those lower registers.

There is also some lovely music among the "fillers".

This is also a great favorite of mine. Wispelwey manages that rare combination of tenderness and authority, and the orchestra is quite good too.
