Underrated I am not so sure about Dave but I have certainly neglected him in the past.DaveF wrote:You're certainly on a Mendelssohn roll there Fergus! An underrated composer do you think?fergus wrote:Mendelssohn – Symphony No. 3....
I was really impressed with this performance and I can’t wait to play it again....next time nice and loud!!

I really liked this version with its lovely textural mix between the tones of the fortepiano and the tenor voice.

A definite highlight is the Adagio cantabile movement of No. 13 with its solo cello!

Brahms Symphony 4. First to the Gardiner version which disappointingly didnt quite live up to my expectations. The recording quality isnt as good as the first 3 efforts in the cycle. The clarity and detail that stood out previously just wasnt there.
The performance was a little too quick and perhaps too forced and vigourous for my liking which doesnt suit Brahms 4 or at least the way I like it for this Symphony. I listened to Bernstein's afterwards and this was a warm lush performance which was more enjoyable for me anyway. It just felt a more cohesive performance from start to finish.

Re: What are you listening to?
Interesting comments Dave if somewhat disappointing. I have not bought it yet but I will do so at some stage.
