I love it Fergus and was hugely impressed with it the first time I listened to it. I hope you learn to love it.fergus wrote:That was a first listen for me Seán. I was certainly not disappointed but not overwhelmed either to be honest. Perhaps with more listening I will appreciate it more.Seán wrote:That really is a marvellous recording Fergus, I hope you enjoyed it.fergus wrote:

Re: What are you listening two?
Sunday morning Puccini and a bracingly powerful and emotionally sweeping Turandot in what must be one of its finest recorded performances. Quite overwhelming.

Re: What are you listening two?
One of my favourite releases in 2014 and a consistent delight. Ophélie Gaillard's wonderful tribute to CPE Bach in his anniversary year takes in the two cello concertos, a trio sonata and a sinfonia and serves as a perfect introduction to this wonderful and sometimes undervalued composer. Impassioned performances imbued with a lightness of touch that are hard to resist.

Forgive the levity and genre hopping but I think the cover art bears a strong resemblance to St. Vincent's 2009 album, Actor. A measured, thoughtful, slightly elevated gaze into the middle distance. Aspirational, intensely focused, suffused in a glow of creative inspiration. Whether or not this comes across as artificial and contrived is a matter of personal interpretation but - as always - what matters most is the music.

It is contrived in that it is one of a number of standard poses used by portrait photographers.mcq wrote:
