It seems to me that these Foo-fighters fall into 2 camps - one camp wants to show off their (often limited) scientific knowledge & prove how superior they are to any poster reporting what they hear. Another camp seems to have an unhealthy paranoia about anybody making a living from audio equipment - this group is strongly in evidence on UK forums. Any ideas why?

The glaring omission from the USB board from Jplay (if I'm reading the blurb correctly) - you can provide an external 5V supply for powering any USB device connected BUT I don't see any mention of an external PS for powering the board

There is a 2.1 mm barrel just beneat the two USB ports for external power of the 5V line or you can use the PC's power via the molex or you can do without additional power and just use the pci-bus if no 5V is needed on the USB. So the card itself is fed from the pci-bus.

If you want, you can buy riser cards that take external power to power the card.

Ok, the external 5V will power the card & provide 5V to any attached USB device?
I would have separated these two power sources but I guess you can still provide external 5V power to USB devices using a patch cable or buy a riser card ?
Then again if your USB device doesn't use 5V power - providing external 5V power will power the card - if I'm understanding this correctly?

I think the internal molex or the external 2.1 jack provides the only 5v to the usb port
and if the dac is self powered no extra 5v is required
any less would be silly

In that case I will need two PS's. One to power the card and one to power my Diverter, right?

Also are you using copper at your data connections and power? I am not sure but it looks that way. Does the thickness of the copper have any affect?

Sorry Mark, but I don't have such a link. The inside dividing and separating it's a regular procedure, special with a better components. I believe that cooper is the best in that case. I never compared how much exactly the thickness affects, but I'm assuming that the ticker - the better, less crap goes true.

Yes you are right about the copper on my sata SSD connection to MoBo and on the power connector to Mobo. That idea I got from Marcin. It makes difference. I used, I believe 3/4'' copper pipe (whatever size fits your connector), soldered wire to ground it and that was it. I put shrink tube on the end, so it does not make any short with MoBo.

but my understanding was the pci powers the card and the external power inputs powers the usb port if thats required

that would make sense to me

i notice on other ordinary usb3 cards that the external molex is used as a booster its not separate for usb supply
ill also state my hatred for riser ribbons, more like an antenna, always lose some sq through them
direct into pci slot seems to be optimal for me

Agree... but any ideas how best to separately supply clean 5V to a "molex-less" pci card?
