It's very clean and detailed, but it's still missing the fullness and naturalness of MQn. We raised the bar very high with latest MQn's.
When I listen to LMS it sounds good, but after I switch to MQn, then is the WOOOW coming!

I'm sure that Gordon will SQUEEZE the last drop of sound from this one also. Isn't that why is called Squeezebox! ;-)

I could've been in one of those good mood listening situation (no wine involved, I swear), but I just didn't want to stop listening last night. I didn't try to compare versions, x64 movsq v2 was excellent in my ears. The bass went deep, but well controlled, more details, more sense of live music and musicians presence in my leaving room. Again, I have not experianced any MQn version beyond 2.71, but x64 movsq v2 crossed that line, I would say.
I need to give it another run tonight just to make sure it wasn't me only that made it so good.

its quite possible that were at 2.71 std, i havent gone back to check

i think aleg,sima66 and i are using
mqnplay.exe 2.73 448 intel raw background.73 intel raw background

with 23220 clockrates

if i am wrong im sure ill be corrected shortly

think this is the highest resolution/best mqn (16bit only though i convert em)

It does a lot of things better than MQn, how good it can become I don't know. One issue is that it is opensource, so any real MQn type changes would need to be made public and I don't know if I want to do that. So that leaves the option of implementing ks in MQn and squeezelite just calling MQn.

Portaudio and squeezelite were developed by people who thought bits are bits so there may be some things going on that are not optimal for SQ.

I'm not sure where this is going to take you to, and all of us following you, but you are the master of Computer Music Playback.
I was one of those who thought that bits are bits just a few months back, but fortunately I met Sima66, and he sucked me into all this...:)
I am trying to pass that around now to convince people that bits are bits, but those bits are like humans. They can get drunk to fall of the road, or they are so weak from time to time to let enemy to get into their crowd, or they don't follow the rules when they run down. Some of them are faster some of them get tired slowing down, but they don't realized how much they ruin our ears.
Analog side of the system is like a river. If no bits, the flow is nice and surface is perfectly flat. To make some noise, something needs to make a splash. That is the bits job, to jump into the river and make that splash. If they jumping in the order they are supposed to, our ears are happy, but it's not always like that as I already explained.
Stupid story, but I was little inspired to share it...

Today I changed the Server 2012 R2 to Core mode, installed VS2013 C++ runtime and applied AudioPhil's Optimiser 1.23 which enables KS in Core-mode.
This was again a step up in sound quality compared to Server 2012 R2 in standard Full GUI mode.

I listened to it with the x64 movsq V2 and it is very good indeed.
I would have no problem keeping it like this, except for having to setup up all these f&*^%$ing tags properly (or use the Music Folder navigation).
The sound is warm, full-bodied and still with a lot of details and definitely somewhat more spatial character. There is a good separation of instruments and it builds a good sound stage.

In Core mode I did loose the possibility to playback music from Qobuz, though |I can browse my account. This is something that also happened with Qobuz Desktop player. Probably some required service or library has been removed by going into Core mode or by applying AudioPhil's optimisation.

Is it as good as my favourite MQn wasapi?
Hmmmm................., nearly, I think.
It is not so easy now to swap players to do A-B testing. But I think MQN wasapi, has just a little more air around the instruments (giving it just a bit more spatial character and detaching it just a bit more from the other instruments) and is just a little more light-footed. But as you notice it becomes difficult to pinpoint now.

Of the MQn wasapi version I was using the 2.71 intel rb 1024 sw because it could still playback 24-bit music of high sample rate. My favourite engine for 44.1/16 was the 2.73 448 rb sw.
But since the introduction of Acourate DRC to my music I have to have 24-bit playback.

So well done Gordon

I'm looking foward to what else you've got up your sleeve yet.

I think I will promote this to my default player for the coming week at least and get to know it a bit better.

Now back to updating these bl*&^&@#$dy tagged WAV-files.

Cheers

Aleg

Aint easy been digital in the analogue world,
it really doesnt seem to be as simple as black and white or 0 + 1's
maybe just different shades of grey like everything else

Aleg,
You didn't catch my post, and Gordon explained it.
I can't run Qobuz or any of 320kbps stations, except Radio Paradise. Gordon promised they will be back, the focus is SQ at the moment.
BTW, I am happy to read your review, it matches my experience...it could be something about Naim...LOL!
Cheers
