Telemann: Chamber Music for Oboe....

I really like the sound of the period oboe and in the hands of an expert like Ponseele playing this genre of music the instrument sounds absolutely wonderful.

Much more than an expert Fergus, Ponseele is a master, the greatest oboe player of our time.
This is superb music making by any standard.

As a fellow countryman of ours once said "I can resist anything but temptation!"
You could do a lot worse Seán!!

On my way to and from work each day I pass a church which often hosts musical events. This weekend they are hosting “Sing Along Messiah”. It is self explanatory and they do it every year. I have not listened to this work since last Christmas so this event prompted me to take down my Christie version today and give it a spin....

Dvorak 9....

The opening movement was very expansive and one really got a sense of wide open spaces. The Largo was beautifully played with much tenderness and not a little pathos. The scherzo was an energetic affair and the final movement steadily builds to a strong climax. A most enjoyable listen.

Interesting comments Fergus, you obviously enjoyed listening to Dvorak's gorgeous 'New World Symphony'. Do you have a favourite recording?

No, not really Seán, mainly because it is a work [and a composer for that matter] that I do not listen to very often - for no particular reason that I can offer!

However, that particular recording was very persuasive.
