I have often wondered about those recordings because I keep coming across the Brilliant Classics Borodin Quartet/Shostakovich complete set in Tower.....and now I know that I should get them.

I got a mixed up there Fergus, the Brilliant Classics box set has music performed by the Rubio Quartet and not the Borodin Quartet, I think that I will get it all the same.

Rather good this one was I thought. Beautiful sound from the organ and nice ambience too captured in the recording. Suzuki plays with plenty of vigour here and its never boring. The subtlety is there when required too. I suspect that I will be returning to this one many times.
The disc has also a SACD layer too for those with such equiped players. The CD layer sounds extremely good in any case.
