Boy there sure is a learning curve to this Linux. Is anyone else having issues? I still am not able to access the NAS or get the wifi adapter to work.

The problem with using your RPi with USB DAC may be to do with the block size of the drive that your music is stored on?
http://www.pinkfishmedia.net/forum/show ... stcount=66
The issue is the read block size. Stuttering occurs when the data can't be read and written fast enough, i.e. if it's "biting off more than it can chew" in one go. If the problem persists with a USB hard drive, it will be because the block size with which the drive was formatted (amount of data read in one go) is too high. I formatted my drive with a small block of 1024 bytes and have perfect playback.

So basically give it smaller bite sized pieces so that it can "chew and swallow" fast enough to feed the data smoothly on into the USB DAC.
from one USB (hdd) to another USB(dac). terrible idea.
if board only has one USB controller, things will be worse.

got the bbb today but didnt get much time with it
its a nicer bit of kit than the rpi
my rune iso image was corrupt so i installed volumio while i waited
sounded good on headphones

how to we plan to access tracks with only one usb port which we need for the dac until i2s is sorted (i read on rune bbb doesnt support 44.1 and its multiples)
the mini usb wouldnt read a usb stick?

i might have to figure out the nas
(my network knowledge is weak at best)

it wouldnt surprise me if rune on bbb on usb dac will sound better than our cheap i2s solutions

For multiple USB devices the people from Beagleboard recommend to use powered USB hubs

I do run runeaudio and connecting to the NAS was real easy.
Select protocol smb for windows shares
Enter IP-address for NAS server
Enter share name
Set to use guest access if you have allowed it on your NAS
And connection is there. It is checked immediately and shows with a green mark if OK.
Subsequently update mpd-database and files are available in browse window.

Only issue I have now is that my soundcard doesn't show up in the mpd-settings audio devices.

aplay -l does show it is recognised by Linux itself, but it doesn't get enabled by Runeaudio initialisation procedure.

Am now in support from runeaudio.

Cheers

cant see how a usb hub would help sq

seen you had trouble recognising the dac
tried a couple of dacs rune either picks em up as "usb audio" or device name "amanero", "xo" etc
all worked oob

Managed to get the RuneAudio working on the BBB. With some help from the developer, the initialisation program needed to be adapted to enable the device for the JKSPDIF MK3.

Now I've got a working player on the BBB, the experimenting can begin.

Cheers
