Listening this morning to a superb performance of Verdi's Requiem. This received somewhat mixed reviews upon release but I find it a really powerfully moving listening experience. Perhaps Barenboim's recent recording is even finer but the reason for that is the presence of Jonas Kaufman and Anja Harteros, both of whom sing with an extraordinary depth of feeling that resonates with the listener. I was very impressed with a DVD recording that Philippe Jordan made for Naive of Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande and this excellent Requiem represents a fine addition to a small but impressive discography.

A beautiful disc of Handel's recorder sonatas coupled with a number of arias transcribed for instrumental ensemble. Dedicated performances delivered with a refined sensitivity that makes for a joyous listen. Recommended.

That's a beautiful version, Sean. I would also recommend recordings by Konrad Junghanel and Ton Koopman as alternatve interpretations of this great masterpiece.

Beethoven’s Archduke Trio played by the Suk Trio....
....this one had a distinctively different flavour to other versions that I own; one of the main reasons that I really like the Supraphon label as they can offer something different.
