I have been listening to Jazz ever since I was a teenager, I have hundreds of Jazz LPs and CDs, I only migrated to Classical in 2007. You can start a new thread on the adjacent 'Everything Else' series of threads or send me a PM if you like, I will be glad to discuss any item with you.

Matt, I likewise am sorry for your loss; it's very sad. Many classical and Jazz CDs from the collections of the elderly don't get passed down to the younger generation in their family, but rather end up in charity shops, being sold for a dollar or so...

he would I believe be very happy that his beloved collection has gone to someone close to him, who will cherish, appreciate and learn from them... very happy indeed.

I couldn't agree more. I do not want my collection to end up in some dusty, backstreet, second hand shop. I started collecting Jazz LPs when I was 15. When I started work at the tender age of 18 I decided not to buy a car or to take a drink but to spend my money on a good Hi-Fi sytem and on building a great LP collection. I never thought then that I would still have my collection 40 years later. I can remember buying many of them, they are a very personal possession, I would dearly love to have somebody have them and to get enjoyment from them much as I have done down through the years. I suppose that a record collection is a very personal thing and no two collections are the same. Donny was lucky to have found an appreciative recipient of his collection, let's hope that we are all as fortunate as him in that regard.

That is a great idea Sean. I shall start the thread in a few days. Just to name a few familiar names (not music) among the 200 cds: Billie Holiday, Oscar Petersson, Duke Ellington, Charlie Barker (the saxophonist if I remember correctly). They all sound very interesting but I don't know where to start. Will tell more when I start a thread.
