Don't really know if what I am about to tell you counts as a purchase but I would like to share it with you.

About two years ago, the godfather of my wife died. He never married and did not have any kids. My wife and her sister were like nieces to him and he cared about them greatly. I had the chance to meet him a few times but the last time as saw him, we talked about music for a very long time. He was impressed that a young person like me was interested in classical music. At the time, I also mentioned to him that I wish I would know more about Jazz and big bands music but never really knew where to start. On the classical music side of things though it was amazing how our tastes were alike (Debussy, Ravel, Stravinsky,...). His last words to me where that I should go to his place one day so that I could see his collection. Unfortunately, cancer took him far too soon after that time.

My wife and her sister were allowed yesterday to go through his belongings and they could take anything that they wanted. As a result, my wife came home with a big plastic container with about 200+ cds full of jazz music, big band music, a few pop music and a few classical music cds. His collection was much bigger than that but mostly on vinyl which I unfortunately don't have anything to play anymore.

Looking through the box, I was able to find 5 classical music cds. They are:

Ravel Concerto for Piano/Sonatine/Gaspard la Nuit Argerich/Abbado/Berliner Philarmoniker

Image

Philip Glass Symphony no. 3/ Interlude 1 and 2 from THE CIVIL WARS / Mechanical ballet/ The light conducted by Russell Davies

Philip Glass Glassworks/ In the Upper Room Philip Glass Ensemble Michael Riesman conductor

Gustav Holst The Planets Boult/London Philarmonic Orchestra

and

Mozart Symphonies 35 and 41 Enrique Batiz /Royal philarmonic orchestra

And sure am thankful to have been able to get those cds and will remember him for that for many years to come.

Thank you Donny.

Matt.

Fergus, I just wanted to echo all the sentiments... I'd like some feedback on this one too, but am also very sorry indeed to hear about your tragic loss... :-(
Thank you indeed Jared; much appreciated.

Fergus, I am very sorry to learn of your family's distress, please accept my sympathies and you know where I am if you want a chat.

That is a very sad story Matt, it's a pity that you can no longer enjoy Donny's company and get to share your mutual love for music, that is sad. It's no substitute at all but you can listen to the music that brought him pleasure when he was alive, I am sure that he would be delighted that his collection is now with someone who appreciates it.
