I bought these for a £1.00 each from the Samaritans book shop yesterday. I don't usually appreciate piecemeal approaches ('bleeding chunks') to CM or opera. But, I thought I would give these a try. I don't think the calibre of the participants can be faulted at all.
Does anyone else have a view on these types of collection?

These two box sets shall arrived by mail sometimes next week. Very happy about purchasing them. Many thanks for suggesting me the Kubelik Schumann's symphonies. As for the Szell conducting Haydn, well, this contains the symphonies 88, 92 to 99 and 104. Of the lot, I only have the 94 and the 104 so it will be great to have more Haydn symphonies (I also have the 100 and 101).

Yes, if you are not familiar with the music it is a great way to have a taster and to see if you should acquire complete recordings of these works.

^^ I see Darren has taken his payday money down to the charity shops again.. ;-)
I don't think I'll be adding much to this particular thread for the time being... I now have over 100 new disks to listen to, which I think will last me until about May as it is... so I'll be laying off for a while.

The Vivaldi disc was at the same shop I bought the Mozart aria discs from. The Kalinnikov was dirt cheap, and I have heard good things about his symphonies

I personally have, as a rule, never done it myself Darren....even when I listened to lots of Rock music. I always went for the full album as I figured that I would end up buying it anyway!!
However, at those prices, one cannot go wrong either!
