Thank you. Your support is truly appreciatedfergus wrote:Life is all about checks and balances and choices that we have to make. I have basically decided that I will attempt a Masters beginning in 2013 and, if I fail to earn a scholarship, I will have to pay for it. The past three days have seen me juggle my finances in my head and general cutting back is what is needed. There is another problem: I literally am running out of space to put stuff!
The good news is that I can see that my collection (and I will add to it; just much less) will sustain me for many years as it is. The pile of unlistened to operas next to my TV now seems like a beacon of hope rather than an awkward reminder of my lack of financial discipline! :-D
You keep saying that LOL!! Of course the bankruptcy laws are about to be changed here so perhaps you are holding on for that!!!Seán wrote: I'll get that set so and the OAE recording and the Zimmerman, I'll have to slow down soon!
You are most welcome Darren and I wish you every success with your project!bombasticDarren wrote: Thank you. Your support is truly appreciated
Fergus is absolutely right. We all have to prioritise at different stages of our lives, so you have to do what's best for you.bombasticDarren wrote:Thank you. Obviously the cost of doing a Masters would be a priority over buying CDs but both Seán and I both intend to stop "serious" collecting this year also. We are both coming to the point where we have a sufficient collection for our current needs.bombasticDarren wrote: It could very well be that I settle for what I have now in my collection, and add the odd disc here and there (on stricter budget!). I need to start saving up to do my Masters....

and so you should be, 600 CDs is a good collection and that is especially so if you are happy to listen to most of it. Matt, you are a young lad so you have plenty of time to build on it too.ravel30 wrote: Hey Darren,
Nice to read about you thinking of doing your masters. Having studied for quite sometimes myself, I totally understand your need to cut on cds. I felt ridiculous on the other forum the day where I wrote I only own 600 different cds but still, I am quite proud of my little collection that build over the years on a student budget.
So am I. I have a young lad in university too.Would be very curious to know in which field that you want to do your master in.
Regards,
Matt.
Hello Matt. If all goes to plan then it will be in Sociology (followed by a PhD if I can manage the finances). I have applied and my grades are up to the required standard, so money really is the only true issue at the moment. I still have to finish my degree, which will take me through to summer 2013. My degree dissertation may be based on attitudes to CM, or behaviour at CM concerts...so I might draw on some help from you guys!ravel30 wrote:Would be very curious to know in which field that you want to do your master in.
That would be most intriguing and I would like to see where that would take you!!bombasticDarren wrote: Hello Matt.
