Darren,
I would love to hear your comments about this cd. I own the first volume of Debussy's piano music played by Werner Haas and enjoy it (though not my favorite version. I like my Debussy to have a clear and reasoning sound). Apparently, Haas is more famous for his Ravel so that is why I am wondering.
Matt.

DaveF here recommended that set to me quite some time ago now and I subsequently bought it....it is a very good set and you will enjoy it Darren.
If either of you are ever in the market for another version, please consider this one:
it is very fine indeed.

I certainly will Matt but I am waiting for it to arrive from the US!

It could very well be that I settle for what I have now in my collection, and add the odd disc here and there (on stricter budget!). I need to start saving up to do my Masters....

That is interesting Darren. Obviously the cost of doing a Masters would be a priority over buying CDs but both Seán and I both intend to stop "serious" collecting this year also. We are both coming to the point where we have a sufficient collection for our current needs.

This all seems rather 'final' Fergus. I'd be interested to learn from both of you, approx how many CDs and boxsets you have, which you deem enough for your current needs.. and furthermore, which repertoire you feel you'd be happy to live without.

I'm pleased my post fell upon sympathetic ears (eyes, if you prefer). I have basically decided that I will attempt a Masters beginning in 2013 and, if I fail to earn a scholarship, I will have to pay for it. The past three days have seen me juggle my finances in my head and general cutting back is what is needed. There is another problem: I literally am running out of space to put stuff!
The good news is that I can see that my collection (and I will add to it; just much less) will sustain me for many years as it is. The pile of unlistened to operas next to my TV now seems like a beacon of hope rather than an awkward reminder of my lack of financial discipline! :-D

Life is all about checks and balances and choices that we have to make. I think that you are being emminently sensible Darren and besides, you have quite a significant collection both in terms of volume and quality to keep you accompanied during all of those long, hard hours of tireless study yhat you no doubt intend to indulge in!!
