Electronica - what are you listening to?

Oh count me in too... If Fran or Simon can copy it I'll get a listen that way. my ears are always open to new sounds... I have a fair bit of electronica but much of it mainstream (ish)

I actually possess a little bit of ambient/electronica as it is, but I'd like to know more. At the moment I've got some Orb, some Orbital, a little Aphex Twin, and that's about it. Still, I think there's a huge amount of overlap between modern classical and electronica. First time I ever heard Aphex Twin, for example, was on BBC Radio 3.

You my friend are in for a treat so :-) Anyway glad to hear you mention the classical/electronic(a) overlap as it does exist but unfortunately there are purists out there who would vehemently disagree. I'm ok with that it's just that they are so missing out BIG TIME. Anyway may I thank Fergus (and Dave) who were the main inspiration behind this foolhardy but worthy project. Believe me I'm having an absolute ball! Now excuse me I'm busy right now...:-)

I received Edition 001 of the 'The Cybot Series, Volume 1' today so thank you Dermot. I had a quick listen to a few tracks on both CD's through headphones on my laptop. I have to say that I found the disc 2(the weirder stuff) much more interesting and enjoyable than the first disc but then again I'm not a huge fan of modern Classical, I'm more more into the Baroque stuff. I'll convert the mp3's to a normal audio CD later as my cd player does not play mp3's. I'll have a good proper listen then. Looking foward to listening to disc 2 on my main system.

Indeed it does but how they got the Tangerine Dream comparison is beyond me! Anyway I will devote a whole disc to pure Electronica from my own Lp archives from the likes of Murcof, Isan, Alvo Noto, Svarte Greiner etc etc

its great to see a fellow member interested in such great aspect of audio as eletctronic/modern music is.

May i add the suggestion:
I too endeavor into electronic/experimental stuff most of the time and found it easier to present it to others when divided into different style groups.
For instance, just because of perception of such music i would not put AFX and, say, biosphere on the same album. Also, i happen to journey more and more into "acoustic doom" lately, which as created by Svarte Greiner (much under Deaf Center moniker) and his Miasmah label (which i consider to be most interestingly evolving label out there at the moment) wanders into the territory of dark ambient and drone. This, presented as a whole - but separate genre - might be a great addition to all well know classic idm-stylish sounds of FSOL, Ae or others. Deriving from classic ambient, and mixing up powerful punch in the sens of maximum simplicity = maximum emotions might shopw a tottaly different aspect of the fusion between electronic and neo-classical approach to modern music. Especially when presented by the likes of Elegi, Reich (though hes known in different areas), mentioned Irrisari, Ben Woods, Miasmah, Digitalis label , Khate, Eleh, Rameses II, and many more...

... Thus, i would propose to make style diferenciation in between the sampler tracks.

I would have though to make another thread pointed towards more ambient/drone-ish type of music, and mentioned darker ambient/field recording mash-ups - i hope this would not be treated as a idea-stealer ? I just feel that nowadays modern classical music derives more and more from electronica and they tend to go in tottally different directions, even when considering they started from the same branch of tree and they might be similarly inspired.
