All worked OOB
Except downloaded corrupt volumio image needed up using torrent
And don't even dream of using mac os to image the SD card ended up using windows

The lower buffers work better as per usual but there was crackling with the cuinas was OK with the rpac in audio 2.0 mode

Powered of the anker battery pack

Via usb it's not at the races
looking forward to trying i2s
Cool little device though
With the RPi I wouldn't expect much via USB - it is a well known weakness of the Pi. I believe the Ethernet and USB shares the same bus, so you are contending for bandwidth on the chip I/O side of things.

I spent a few hours last night wandering through my music library and via I2S this thing rocks on every subjective level - detail, tonality, bass extension, bass speed, microdynamics, musical flow, even channel separation seems better and more stable.

Get to I2S guys, I think you'll be pleased.

I2s is the goal
I2s dac is on its way

Imagine there's huge scope for improvement in software

Well I knew I'd buy the wrong gear first so I went the cheap option with the RPi and hillberry dac so I could get some grounding on the idea first And then figure out what to do next

can we run volumio on rpi locally without ethernet?

Trying runeaudio might be better than volumio

Rune Audio hasn't implemented the I2S code yet, so a bit of patience will be needed on that front. And Rune and Volumio both come out of Raspyfi, so not likely much real difference.

Using Raspbian and MPD or Mopidy or LMS are via alternatives to Volumio though.

Thought they were close to getting i2s going
I've got a.few SD cards so I'm just playing around

Still have cracking with the cuinas
I got to get i2s going first

Mark,

Can I ask what you used to wire the I2S connection? Did you need to use special wire?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark

No, just boggo solid core hookup wire from Maplin. Over 40-50mm nothing fancy is needed.
