A wonderful album from one of Evans' best bands.  The man himself felt that this group came closest of all to the great trio with Scott LaFaro and Paul Motian.  The difference here is that the drummer, Joe LaBarbara, really challenged and provoked Evans in a way that reminded him of his interplay with Motian.  There is also a second CD for that Paris concert that you should track down (Edition Two) but, for a fuller picture, I highly recommend Turn Out The Stars, an exquisite 6 CD box set that documents the great man's final shows at the Village Vanguard, recorded shortly before his premature death.  Also, I have never read a better, more informed, or more sympathetic book on Evans than Peter Pettinger's How My Heart Sings.  

Looking for a recommendation to fill an amazon basket. Duo, trio, quartet with guitar. Nothing too challening, late night with whiskey music. I intended to buy First Edition by George Shearing and Jim Hall but it's too expensive. Any other suggestions?
