Violin Concertos by Mendelssohn and Bruch....

....and the Bruch always exceeds the Mendelssohn for me.

One of the finest musicians of our time left us today. After returning from work I wondered what I should play in his memory, Mozart´s Gran Partita of course.

I really liked Symphony No. 2; I liked the mood and the textures and the whole work had a novel feel to it.
The Clarinet Concerto is a gentle, almost restrained affair which I have no doubt will be one for repeated listening.

This is the last installment in Koopman´s complete survey of Buxtehude´s oeuvre. Words can´t say what exquisite performances these are, and the works themselves: heavenly. I think I´m going to cry when this is finally over, which should be soon.
