A hell of a line up of ECM titles Sean :) I have the first two and they are absolute classics. Have never even seen the third title but I'm very familiar with the fourth having spied it's iconic cover down the years. By the way the YT links aren't working Sean? Richard Beirach is a lovely pianist and Mraz & DeJohnette complement him beautifully.

Two more ancient vinyls from the ECM vault. 1973 and 1976. Inspired by Sean's previous choice......You're fairly keeping me interested :)

I LOVE Ralph Towner but, despite my having a few of his LPs I have never warmed to Abercrombie, he always sounded like a rock guitarist to my ignorant ears. NOW, this album is closer to rock than Jazz but, my word, it is fabulous music and the beautiful Mexican bass player, Abraham Laboriel, is really something else. Mick Goodrick's quiet, understated guitar is gorgeous too, yes, this is a real tour de force:

Oh GOD , I saw this group in Dublin in the late seventies and what a concert, WOW, there was a time when Gary Burton was a regular visitor to these shores and we are all the poorer for his not doing so anymore.

The superb Tiger Okoshi celebrated his 64th birthday earlier this week and he was a young man when I last saw him.

I have to agree with you re: Abercrombie. Though I find his tone a bit on the watery side. The other album I'm familiar with as I have it in my collection. I love it especially Mike's guitar.....Great selection :)
