Interestingly I have been trying to schedule in some Glass that I need to listen to but I have been putting it off for some time now. I must bite the bullet and listen soon!Seán wrote:I must admit I do find Glass tough going, this minimalist malarkey doesn't move me. There are times when I have found Cage interesting. I am not familiar with any of the other composer or performers on that setmarkof wrote:
A very intense 3 album set of minimalist works from a variety of contemporary composers (Glass, Skempton, Reily, Cage) and popular musicians (Eno, Radiohead, Aphex Twin).
Tough going in places but powerful and beautiful none the less.

Re: What are you listening two?
<Interesting post Pepe. Given what you said do you know why this opera was produced and issued instead of a more well known one that surely would have had bigger sales potential?>
I think it makes a lot of sense to record a work that has never been recorded before, even more than to record yet another La Boheme or Barbiere, but this unfortunately is not the logic of the market. According to the people of Harmonia Mundi, it is a sure thing to rerecord ad nauseam 4 Seasons and Beethoven´s Ninths rather than invest in the symphonies of Mehul for example.

I am far from an expert in these matters Seán but I think that Rubenstein's anything or anyone is magnificent LOL!!Seán wrote: Rubenstein's Mozart is magnificent.

Powerful playing from the BPO under von Karajan. I do not have a full performance of Smetana’s Ma Vlast by these forces; I do not know if they even recorded it but I will have to investigate whether I can get my hands on such a recording if it does exist!

Perhaps they did, but no composer is comparable to Ludwig van Beethoven in my book.Jose Echenique wrote:"Nine notes of Mozart move me more than Beethoven´s nine symphonies".Seán wrote:Rubenstein's Mozart is magnificent.fergus wrote:Chopin waltzes played by Rubinstein....

As much as I love the music of Mozart I could not agree with that statement personally.Jose Echenique wrote:
