I had not heard of the tenor Ernesto Palacio but what attracted me to the purchase was the list of composers credited on the CD. These include Leonardo Vinci, Nicolo Jommelli, Gian Battista Pergolesi, Johann Hasse, Leonardo Leo and Antonio Vivaldi; a good list of very reputable composers indeed and the arias extracted from their respective works were, to my ear, very well sung by a strong, lyrical voice. The accompaniment by the ensemble Salieri Chamber Orchestra was very taut, assertive yet sensitive and well played. A very good find indeed!

Ernesto Palacio is one of those Rossini tenors that Peru seems to produce so easily that also include Luigi Alva and Juan Diego Flórez. Palacio was active in the 80´s and 90´s and made many recordings for different labels. In the early 90´s he discovered Juan Diego Flórez singing folk music, trained him as an opera singer and has managed his career ever since.

Thank you for that Pepe; I had hoped that you would have something to offer on Ernesto Palacio.

Maya Homburger, the soloist on this CD lived in Ireland for a time and I had the privilege of hearing her playing live in both Baroque and Modern repertoires. She of course moved on to perform in many of the famous Bach Cantata Pilgrimage concerts and recordings with Gardiner.
