I meant to ask
what you thought of the ppa usb3 card ?
I havent heard one as of yet

what are you powering your pc with at the minute?
is it a standard atx power supply?

i have a thermaltake 520W ps at the moment..
i can say only positive things about PPA usb card (i have last version with silver wire transformer) after my mobo's generic usb2 and usb3 and i'm still giving it a dirty power... result was imediate: improved resolution, more analog timbres. and this is still with dirty atx power to it. in few days i'll get linear 5v1a power and will report back the results.

I had a silent seasonic atx power supply before I went pico + linears
it was good compared to run of the mill atx supplies

The linear pico combination will give a good lift in sq over an atx supply

even to start with one linear 12v gives a great improvement

Im sure youll have a great sounding system when your done

see the two silver colored dials one of them is the voltage

maplin power supply arrangement

Image

this is the cpu motherboard plug this is what you connect one of the 12v (7 AMP MAPLIN) supplies yellow = +12v black is ground

Image

SEE HERE IS A SHOT OF THE SATA POWER PLUG BUT UNDERNEATH THIS YOU CAN SEE A VOLTAGE REGULATOR WHICH IS NOT NEEDED FOR NEW BUILDS NOR IS A THIRD MAPLIN SUPPLY
AS THE WALL WART LINEAR I LISTED FROM EBAY HAS A ALMOST IDENTICAL SQ AT FAR LESS COST AND SIZE

this is a power sata for ssd connect red wire is the +5v black is ground use +5v linear wall wart here

Image

Image

this is a 8 pin plug(only used six of them) i used to bring the 3 linear 12v supplies into the pc case, just so i can hit one main switch hit the on button on the pcs and be up and running in no time

Nice work,Nige. Maplins must be very happy with you :) What current does the motherboard plug draw?
