Cheers Fran; I do not know of the Gibson one but I have read very good things about the Jarvi set. I have not heard it but I would not think that there would be anything in that performance that would cause a problem.

No, I don't think it was anything to do with the performance/recording, I think I just didn't fall for it. Pictures is doing much better for me....

OK, you win some, you lose some. It would be great if you could post some of your thoughts on the Pictures in due course Fran; it is always interesting to get a relative newcomer's impressions on a work.

Well today might have been Bloomsday in some parts of this Fair City of ours but it was Sibelius Day in the Dunne household, Sibelius Fifth to be exact.

First up was Johnson's Building a Library nomination:

Colin Davis - conducting.

Back in time to the early sixties:

And to Austria and the gorgeous sound of the VPO

Germany and Sanderling's very fine BSO:

Blomstedt is a splendid conductor, this time we were in San Francisco:

Ah Vänskä

Symphony No. 5

Lahti Symphony Orchestra
Osmo Vänskä - conducting.

Last and most definitely least in my opinion: Herbie and the other Berliners, this takes (and does not reward) a lot of effort:

And tomorrow? Well, it's back to Colin Davis and the LSO of course.
