As luck would have it, I came across this Angela Hewitt cd in e2music earlier today, it only cost me €5 for this second hand disc. I am not familiar with Ms Hewitt's work, this is my first Hewitt cd, I know that Jared is very fond of Angela Hewitt's perfomance of the WTC so I just had to buy it.

Not everyone likes Bach played on the Piano (do they, Fergus?)

however if you're looking for a Bach specialist on the instrument, no-one comes more highly praised these days than AH, who has completed two highly distinguished traversals of the WTC and has now completed Bach's entire output for the instrument, issued in a 14 CD boxset through Hyperion. I also own her Toccatas and her French/ Italian... and they are exceptional...

I have the Andras Schiff box set of Bach's solo works and it is fabulous music. I understand where Fergus is coming from because when listening to Schiff it sounds as if he might be playing on a harpsichord rather than a piano.

Indeed not Jared....but for Hewitt I do make an exception!

I will tell you how my listening plans have been working for the past 4 or 5 months....

Generally, I build up a collection of 7 or 8 loosely themed CDs (recent batches have included Handel & Haydn, Baroque choral, Liszt piano, Berlioz orchestral, or at present Tallis Scholars) which get played 6 times each... everything gets played a minimum of 6 times before being allowed into my main collection, or else I won't have done it justice.

Every once in a while, I will collect up a batch of 7 or 8 miscellaneous CDs, usually from charity shops which I hadn't planned to buy, and play them as a group.

On average one batch in every 3 will be revision sets, where I am listening to new recordings of work I am already familiar with. The new recording will get a minimum of 3 listens, and will often get compared to the existing recordings of the work I own. The above Handel disks will therefore find themselves alongside the likes of something like the Bach Mass or Monteverdi Vespers (haven't decided yet) for a New Year revision listen...

my older recordings come out randomly, and tend to get played at work quite a bit....

anyway, you'll probably find all that rather anally retentive (indeed it is!) but at least it ensures a thorough and even listen to all new works..

One has to admire your tenacity and dedication to the listening cause Jared....you are lucky to be in a position to have the opportunity to have so much listening time during the day in your work situation.
