I do not believe you will hear a difference Fran as I think 4.3a was released to address some hibernate issues.
That's the story alright I didn't bother downloading it waiting for v5 and it sounds as if it is going to be the biz. the tc with windows 8 is about as good as you are going to get Fran without going down Pearse/ken's SSD route.
The jplay forum is full of ideas re sata cables interference blockers etc I have to let all that wash out and go for some finished product. Still need somebody to buy the musica ibuki dac to see if it is as good as Marcin suggests. I know there is no hires but he advises the sound is sublime with old technology dac chip which is only 16bit

I installed W8 on the offsping's netbook and it frequently reset itself but when I changed the "turn off hard disk" to a high number (999 I think) the problem did not happen again. I think there's an issue with W8 and this adjustment may be necessary.
For Jplay
Here are my full advanced performance adjustments/settings;
High performance……..no password.
Turn off hard disk….560mins the number 560 is not significant , I simply raised it out of listening time.
Desktop background slideshow…….. paused
Wireless adapter power saving mode ………….maximum performance
Sleep…………..all off or disabled
USB selective suspend……………….disabled
Power button action……………do nothing
PCI…………….linkstarter power management off
Displayturn off ………….never
………………………………adaptive brightness off
Processor power management…………no change
Multimedia…………………………………prevent idling to sleep
My Jplay is now reliably working on FullScale Hibernate.

Now up to playing 4 songs together and seems to be working fine.Had the usual few hangs which was due to antivirus being left on I reckon.
Really when going to extreme settings the laptop/source needs to be singular i.e not used for general use as is the case for me. The laptop often bombs out as i forget to adjust all the settings. The kids use it etc.

Still bombs out if too many tracks are loaded. Probably a setting somewhere still active. Getting up to about 4 tracks anything after starts playing but at a certain point track 4/5 can't remember it hangs. But sound is really good so will persevere. Probably easier when running windows normally to identify what to get rid of. TC is a bit trickier and not as easy to go hunting around.

Didn't see your posts,Pearse. W8 is an improvement over W7 ok but I didn't get any benefit from Jplay V4.3a over V4.3. It didn't cure any issues for me but I finally got FullScale Hibernate with the settings I published earlier. I find that the very finest sound is with Hibernate and music from the SSD. If you're playing Jplay headless then you need to set up a hibernate.settings file where you can define which hibernate mode to start with and avoid the hibernate warning.
Tony, talking of SATA cables I bought the PPAStudio one this morning , it's a cousin of Pearse's Green Label USB cable, got it secondhand from Australia so I'll report on it's performance when it arrives.

For existing Jplay customers Version 5 Beta will be available for testing from tomorrow. I'm not sure what's in it but it's expected to be a major jump in quality and usability .

We should have something like the Bat Signal for such emergencies.
