Wow, that's amazing. If I didn't have all the Pollini and some of the rest in my collection already I'd have bought it right now! I may yet buy it in the interest of completeness!

The Chopin box set is amazing value .. basically 2-euro per CD but with some of the greats [Pollini,
Askenazi, Pires etc]. I am not a great fan of Chopin but I have orderred this mainly for the etudes,
scherzos, preludes and sonatas -- I am not a fan of the walzes or nocturnes [which is about 50%
of chopin].

I really like the funeral march from the sonata -- it sounds easy to play but there is a bit in the
middle -- typical chopin -- that is really hard.

By the way -- its about double on mdt.

Does anyone here own the Eton Choirbook 5CD set by The Sixteen? I occasionally hear great things about it, and believe it to be the only completely recorded set of all the works salvaged from HVIII's grasp while the rest went on the bonfire...

but is 5CDs of English Renaissance polyphony a necessity or overkill?

Although I personally have not heard that set there is some of that music on my own Wish List so I am interested in hearing the music eventually. I also like the Sixteen who give consistently good performances. The thing is the opportunity cost....what are you not buying as a result of getting this set if it is not a high priority?

^^ I do understand what you mean... my wish list is simply huge. This set isn't near the top of my list but I have to say I'm most intrigued by it... the more I read, the more intrigued I become. I have to weigh up this against the complete Tallis boxset, the complete Victoria boxset and so on... as you say, its all time and money... ;-/

I highly recommend it, Jared. In fact, I believe it's Harry Christophers' crowning achievement with The Sixteen (along with his exceptional recordings of John Sheppard's beautiful music on the Hyperion label). So much glorious music from so many unfairly neglected composers. I also recommend The Tallis Scholars' very fine recordings of music by John Browne, Robert White, Thomas Tonkins, William Cornysh and the aforementioned Sheppard.

Sorry Jared, I have invested in the Chopin box set . One for moi and one for the brother inlaw who plays a bit of piano and I know loves Chopin. So thanks for the enthusiasm guys.
