jaybee, my PC has digital out also from the soundcard, but that doesn't overcome the problem of getting it to the hi-fi: that's where the Squeezebox Touch would come in (if it were available).
plug it into a socket near your dcs and you pc (if it has wireless) will stream the audio to the digital out on the unit (airport express base station)
they're 90 from apple but I got mine on gumtree.... half that!!
