Thanks for the suggestions, i'll go into the local classical store and see if they have any of the suggested cds...except this one.

Have one here in Nottingham, was in there and there was people 'updating' their collections from this place.

I will venture a recommendation:

Jean Guillou on the Dorian Label
Recorded in The Tonhalla, Zürich

I just happen to have the Pictures At An Exhibition from the same venue, label and performer. Very good sound!

Edit: Sorry his version is very "free" in terms of tempos etc. So this may not be to your liking...

Ah look, I actually have the recording myself. I just wish that Guillou would use his phenomenal technique for good rather than evil.

How about full Fantasia treatment? The Stokowski transcription played by the Philadelphia Orchestra under Wolfgang Sawallisch.
