I've been enjoying this
recent CD from l'Arpeggiata and Christina Pluhar: I was a bit suspicious about it, thinking maybe she'd bring in a Corsican choir or traditional percussion, but no, it's played straight (and very lively with fast tempi) and has good soloists. Bonus DVD with some of the numbers: nice to see the old instruments in action.

I am coming late to this one and I also certainly recommend the Gardiner.
This one is also a cracker....

I have to say I really enjoyed the Parrott recording; it's great value for money too

I very much agree but one does not like to make too many recommendations.

I also like Alessandrini and Parrott (of course, Parrott has Nigel Rogers. Reason enough to buy his recording: no-one else can do Moonteverdi's
gorgia passages like him!). And also Stubbs:
a very small-scale performance. I'd say my current favourite is Pluhar.

hang around long enough Simon and, as usually tends to be the way, you'll get a recommendation for every available recording... ;-)
