didn't take long for this thread to descend into anarchy. Where's the banning stick?

It wasn't a bad idea, but Page Two and still no system pictures! Order will have to be imposed!!

That said, it was probably a bad idea to start the thread without posting a system picture... a fatal weakness perhaps.

That's a gorgeous set-up Dave, well done. How's the sound? Do you have bass-boom problems with rock & Jazz? By the way have you tried the Tom Evans phono stage? 'tis marvelous.

Thanks Seán. The sound is big improvement over the old place. No bass boom problem whatsoever although I havent tried silly volumes yet. I'm testing neighbours for a while first :-). The couch in the middle works well in adding clutter to the room. Without it the sound is a little thinner. Need to experiment a bit more though.
I considered the Tom Evans but given that the rest of my equipment has a neutral clean sound including the TT, I decided to go for a tube phonostage to add some warmth.

That's a beautiful room and a great system you have, Dave. Those Ushers really do look stunning. Hopefully, all of that sunlight streaming in through the windows has no effect on the gorgeous finish of the speakers. By the way, I hope your back has fully recovered from the exertion of heaving those 180 pound speakers up a flight of stairs. I bet you were thinking for a moment, why didn't I go for a nice bookshelf like the Sonus Faber Guarneri or the Wilson Audio Duette, but I'm sure when you had everything in place again and the music was playing, you just knew you made the right decision. Do you have any plans to upgrade to the new 8571s with the Diamond DMD tweeter?

absolutely. Normally when I'm not there I have the blinds down to protect them.

I thought about it but I dont think that Cloneys deal with Usher anymore. Anyway I'd fear that by upgrading the tweeter I might upset the balance of the speaker. I'd be more interested in going for a better midrange to be honest. As good as the Ushers are they would not be quite as open as say a pair of Kharmas or a good pair of ESL's I'd imagine. The next step up the Usher ladder are the BE-10's but they are even bigger.
