Only got around to having a look at my system this afternoon. The 989s and rest of the system have been plugged out for nearly a month now. Anyway, last time I charged up the Quads there was an audible hiss coming from one speaker for a min or so but this time all was quiet. I also switched around the left/right speaker cables at amp to see if the 'lower volume' channel followed the amp or stayed with the speaker.
It stays with the speaker so the amp is fine. The volume difference is not quite as great as I had thought but then it is only more obvious on certain recordings. I had someone else over this afternoon and they agreed on the lower left speaker so I have totally lost the plot just yet. System was sounding really good too.
Jadis eventually got back to me on a query I had a few months ago- My amp can accept kt120s afterall but will draw more current. I'll need 8 of them so something I'll need to save for in the coming months.

Good to hear it is not the Jadis Dave, maybe when the speakers get charged up over 24 hours they might sound better.
Is there any sign of grommet with a flashing charging light behind it on the back unit like the 63s, if there was it should be able to tell you the state of charge depending on how slow the lights are flashing?
Maybe Quad took them off on the later models but there were great for telling you how good the panels are and how good they are compared to one another after powering them up.
Cheers, Pearse.

No sign of any such grommet Pearse, I had a look last week. Maybe there is one underneath the base, I'll check later.

I haven't been around the forum recently, postings seemed to have dropped a bit but I am delighted to see that things have got lively recently.
Dave F, how are the 989s at the moment? Do you still have a problem and are you sending them back to Quad or to One thing?
I think a can of worms is being opened re Blind testing. Imo too many variables. I have a friend who berates me and says the best upgrade I could get would be to have my ears syringed. Sometimes when I am driven demented by the system I think of this advice and return to just enjoying the music which in the end should be what it is all about.
If anybody wants to hear the Quads 2805s with Townsend super tweeters and REL S3 subwoofer please send a pm and we can arrange a time for a listen.
Tony, love your 57s with subwoofers. Hope they and the Jadis are still singing.

Hi Peter, the 989s are behaving very well at the moment. In fact they've never sounded as good before. Still the slight lower volume in the left speaker but the majority of the time its not even noticeable.
I got a quote back from Quad re cartons and shipment. Its pretty expensive with the euro/stg rates so I'm gonna hold off for a while.

Re slight difference in sound could it have anything to do with placement?
