Many thanks for the introduction.
I'll put the concerto in my Qobuz playlist immediately.
The only Bruch I have in my collection is Kol Nidrei performed by Du Pré and it's a lovely piece too.
Mark.

DaveF wrote:You've made a superb effort with this thread Fergus. Thanks. I think I only have the one Bruch recording and its the violin concerto if remember correctly. I will dig it out later and read this thread again in detail.
Cheers Dave. Do let us know what recording you have.
Do you like the work?

I am delighted that you took the bait Mark. You obviously liked the work?
Kol Nidrei is andeed another wonderful work.
You might also want to to check out the Scotish Fantasia; it too is a magnificent work for violin and orchestra and it is a little less complicated/demanding than a full concerto.

Thank you Simon.
Are you familiar with the work? If so, do you like it?

I know the 3rd movt, as I'm sure most people do, and I'm pretty sure I saw a performance of the work at the NCH a few years ago. In any case, I enjoy the piece and it definitely deserves further listening.

A beautiful piece. I've always found Chung ideal in this music.
The best of the recent versions is that by Julia Fischer.
I'm also very fond of this recent performance by the young Armenian violinist, Sergey Khachatryan. He really should record it for Naive. Plenty of competition but I think he's a very sincere musician with interesting things to say about the music he plays.

Thank you for that.
I have the Chung and love it.
I have not heard the Julia Fischer. Interestingly I like Zinman and what he does so I may just follow that one up.
I will listen to the Khachatryan clip as soon as I get a chance.

That's great; another fan of this work and more recommendations!
When I started this thread I actually thought that I owned that Naxos CD; I was suprised that I didn't.
