Marantz CD63 -- how to fix ?

I have a Marantz CD63 from years back (20 ?). It's skipping and I tried a Laser cleaning CD. Don't want to throw it out but don't want to spend a fortune. Any suggestions ?

[Mostly I do streaming so I will probably just buy a CD-transport to replace it. Sort of sentimental since it was my first CD player from Richer Sounds.]

Thanks Fran. Its a good article but it looks too complicated for me to attempt. I think I'll just buy a CD transport.

By all means go for a new transport, but don't junk that 63.
Given that the replacement mech is on 'mazon for $20 and according to Fran's link it seems a straightforward job.
All you need is a soldering iron [ cheap units from Lidl every so often or borrow from mate)( 6 or so wires to de solder and re solder to motor terminals- not electronics bits), screwdrivers and a small diameter drill bit & drill. No high voltage risk to you, even if you totally cock it up, which you won't. Don't plug in the unit unless the case is closed- laser risk
Proceed slowly, plenty of help & advice here if you ask.There will be utube tutorials to explain basic soldering, probably also showing how to remove case on the CD 63 or any cd case will be similar.

Hi John,
I took your advise and ordered a new transport. It will be a bit of an adventure trying to get it working. There is a very cheap one available on amazon ..

but it gets mixed reviews (some people say its a clone and not made by philips, some says it works perfectly, some say parts are secondhand). So I decided to go with a dearer one from ebay. I assume it is genuine Philips but who knows ..

Its ordered and paid for. I will report back on progress when I eventually get it and try to install it.
I have all the tools I need. I might try cutting the old wires that need soldering (and are attached to the board) and joint them to the new wires (with solder) rather than trying to de-solder the old connectors.
