Thanks Cyndale, The Session was my first introduction to a lot of music that has stuck with me for probably 30yrs. I remember as a teenager seeing the likes of Joe Ely and David Grissom for the first time on it, Marty Stuart too and a big one was seeing"a guy"( John Prine as it turned out but unknown to me then) introducing Lyle Lovett for the first time to Irish audiences. The session was a great series and as I understand it was pushed by Philip Donnelly to bring these big American artists he worked with back home to an audience in Ireland. Both big losses in their own ways.Cyndale wrote: ↑Sun Apr 12, 2020 12:56 pm Philip Donnelly (known as the Clontarf Cowboy) was a good friend of John Prine's and he played guitar on the original of Speed of the Sound of Loneliness - what a beautiful sound he got for the solo. Philip Donnelly died just last December. Anybody old enough will remember a local band called Elmer Fudd.

RTE had a programme called The Session... here is Philip Donnelly and John Prine playing with other well known Irish musicians. The video quality isn't great, probably copied from a videotape, but enjoyable nonetheless.
