Anyone catch RTE's Home of The Year during the week? The winning house was a fabulous modernist place in a wooded setting somewhere in County Clare. Owned and designed by a Greek architect who lives there with his family, it included a very nice listening area with some tasty looking audio kit including turntable and standmount speakers.
It's probably on the RTE player but there are some pics here, one with a nice view of the music area.

Actually saw that as it ran the other night - it did indeed look very like a stereo 20. Couldn't ID the speakers though. Turntable looked like an empire?
Do or do not, there is no try

I saw this too. My first reaction was, it had to be a foreign, as in 'non-Irish' gentleman, who had an audio system in his home. Of all the homes that have been featured on this show this is the first time I have seen an audio system!!!! Most of these homes exude wealth, creativity and sometimes excess, yet nobody, seemingly, has an iota of interest in audio? I am afraid it is just the 'Irish Condition'. There is plenty of money for flash houses, flash cars, fancy holidays (no doubt) but no interest in audio? I am sure it isn't for the want of the necessary funds considering the homes that are featured in this series? I was going to highlight this on my Facebook page (@vinyllpcare) after that show aired, but decided not to ultimately.
It reminds me of a time in the mid to late 1980s in the middle of yet another recession. I was in contact with a Chinese man who was living in one of the northern counties (Co. Monaghan maybe) who had just secured distribution rights for the Simon Yorke brand of turntables in the 26 counties. He could not understand, and I could feel the astonishment in his voice, the almost complete lack of interest in audio in Ireland, unlike Asia. I bet he didn't sell many or any Simon Yorke turntables here either.
I know people who will spend GBP£400.00 for a first U.K. pressing of a particular record, yet when I ask them about upgrading or moving to a higher quality audio system, they have no interest or they say that their wives would be 'enraged' at such an idea. High End or any audio is a very hard sell in Ireland. This is sad, disappointing and a real shame, in my humble opinion, anyway.
