Hi All,
I was wondering if anybody had heard or compared the HEGEL H360 amp? If so, what did you think of it?

Re: HEGEL H360 Amp - Anybody heard it?
Hi,
I am unable to say anything in relation to this particular model of Hegel amplifier, however I had a chance to listen at home Hegels smaller brother - H160. I guess both amps share same presentation style, sound signature typical for the manufacturer.
H160 was very clean sounding, not cold or soulless but probably truthful. It did not colored the sound, did not add anything. In comparison to my tube amp Hegel had more slam with more controlled bottom end. My amplifier was richer in harmonics with more complex textures. I can not recall anything unusual in relation to soundstage as it was very good, or top end which again was very clean, but not sterile.
Comparing to cable it's strange, but I can say if H160 was a speaker cable I would say it would be Tellurium from black series up, nothing added and nothing taken away.
I think what you will get with H360 will be the same school, just way better.
I probably did not help you much so as always it's best to organize the listening session in your place to have the best idea what is like. At least this can be arranged locally.
Good luck
Maciej

It's actually really helpful as I also currently have a valve amp (double mono KT88).
Did you prefer your valve amp at the end or did you take the Hegel?

Re: HEGEL H360 Amp - Anybody heard it?
Hi,
I had no intentions to change the amplifier then. It belonged to someone who I know, and he brought the amplifier just to show me as I was curious.
It was while ago so I am unable to give you many specifics, but overall impressions was positive, however not to degree so I would start to contemplating any change. I own KT88 based amp too, and I do not think I would easily replace saturation, texture that the tubes provide in
midrange for extra grip at the bottom end, better control that solid-state amp are known for. With 50W from tubes there is enough power anyway to drive efficient speakers.
The amp that you are considering is twice the price of H160 so you can expect that the quality will be lifted, so H360 is definitely worth to try.
If you were going to listen H360 please let me know what are your impressions at the end.
