Looking for good starter turntable

Post by TrickyDicky »

A buddy of mine is looking for a good starter turntable (c. €200-€280) but I can't find anything out there at the moment that I can recommend to him. Anyone clearing out, or know of something that's available?

Thanks for response. Had seen that ok, but notice that you can get it brand new & delivered from richersounds.ie for 219 (new stylus, guarantee, etc.) which would be still inside his budget. Are you familiar with the Essential II?

TBH I'd go new if he can get it at that price. As far as I know Richersounds.ie did/do a discount for registered Boards users. Not familiar with the Essential II but Projects are generally simple to set up and get going straight out of the box.
I've been using a Project for the last few years and am very happy with it: http://www.hifihut.ie/turntables-irelan ... black.html impressed over more expensive ones when I was buying it and got a good deal from Hifi Hut

I have a Pro-ject Debut Carbon DC which I've just upgraded. It's less than a year old, and I can supply either an Ortofon Alpha or 2m Red cart fitted. Fully boxed with all the original bits.

Would be looking to get around the €325 mark for it with the 2m or €300ish with the Alpha.
